Tyler Hilton says You know, I think that movies would be really cool to keep doing. The main reason that I got into acting was because I love performing in front of a live audience. It was theater that really gets me. Movies I'd like to try out... I never expected to be a TV guy, but I never expected to dig it as much. Never say never. I'm definitely curious to keep trying out the movie scene.
Tutorgirl23 asks Hi Tyler I went to the One Tree Hill Concert in Nashville at Rocketown I think you were great but how do you concentrate on singing with a bunch of people staring at you?
Tyler Hilton says Well there's two different types of singing, maybe even more. Singing in the studio, singing in the bedroom, singing in front of an audience. They're all for different purposes. When you're singing live, you're almost retelling the story. Its like talking to a group of friends, telling a story. You're concious that everyone is there, I don't tune 'em out. Tyler Hilton says Man, you know.. I'll be honest. I think about that all the time. I don't know, you know it is such a strange thing. I've been doing much a long time but I haven't been in the public eye for a long time. To have that title pinned on you... you make fun of those guys in high school. So when someone calls you that, you're like wait a minute... I think that it is flattering but I haven't quite

Tyler Hilton says Yeah, I did. I always did. I always knew that I would be an entertainer of some sort. I practiced magic tricks although I wasn't great at that. I practiced juggling and I was good at that. Songwriting became more of a thing for me. It is sort of a blessing that it became what I got to do for a living. I did dream of both of those. You never expect them to come true, I was quite lucky.
tylerhiltontracker14 asks If you weren't a singer/songwriter/actor, what else would you be doing in life?
Tyler Hilton says If I wasn't a songwriter/actor, I don't know if this counts but I would be a TV personality or I would be a radio DJ or I would be a street juggler. I don't know, I mean it would be something performing. My sister just asked me that the other day. It was so funny hearing her say it, she's like "if this music thing or acting thing doesn't work out, what are you going to do with your life?"
Tyler Hilton says I realized that it is a risk to take but it is what I've been given. I love to perform and if there is anything that I"m good at, that would be it. I don't know what else my talents are. I would have to do something as far as performing goes because I love it so much.
Tyler Hilton says If I could be anything, I guess I would be an astronaunt because I'd love to see the earth from space.
baby_erica2001 asks How old were you when you started playing the piano?
Tyler Hilton says Good question! I started playing piano when I was .. hmm.. maybe 8.
Tyler Hilton says Of course, you know, I've been playing guitar since I was ten. I should be much better at both of them but I never concentrated enough. I just wanted to be good enough to play songs and write them. I'm not amazing at either but I do have a pretty firm grasp on how to put together songs. How to play songs that I hear on piano... I've been playing for awhile, my dad played a lot.
Tyler Hilton says Its about chords, chord structure and giving it your own style just from repetition.
TylerHKC asks What is your technique to writing a song?
Tyler Hilton says Man, I tell you, if I knew, I would do a whole lot more of it. I don't know, I mean, is it forced, does it just come? I don't know it comes both ways. Thats what scares me so much about relying on songwriting. I have no idea how it happens. I just guess, I wait around for it to happen. Its such a different kind of career to depend on because you're hoping that you'll be creative enough
Tyler Hilton says in the future. I am scared to death. You can't force it, you're looking for the songs that give you goosebumps. If you can write a song a month, you're happy. But sometimes you can go 3 or 4 months and only have half songs that aren't finished. That is what is so exciting and so scary about being a songwriter.
kellershaley asks What kind of advice would you give to aspiring Singers/Songwriters?
Tyler Hilton says I definitely have good advice. I wish that a lot of my friends had this advice and that I had this advice. You have to practice. I think that some of the best practice for singer/songwriters is to learn other people's songs. Learn the song and be able to cover them. If you can, record them on a little tape and do it in your own style. See how they put the chords together.
Tyler Hilton says Perform! Perform at coffee houses, at your high school, just perform. The way that record sales are going, performing live is one of the things that will keep you going as a musician. The cool thing is that people are attracted to good musicians. Doing a demo and shipping it out to record labels doesn't always work. What does work every time is being a good musician. That works every time.
Tyler Hilton says Knowing that, you know that no practice will be in vain.

Tyler Hilton says The couple people that I would love to collaborate with more than anything, that kind of embody that spirit... I love Jack White from the White Stripes, Rivers Cuomo from Weezer. .. and Patty Griffin.

Tyler Hilton says They are. I mean, I remember when I first got to the set. I remember thinking "aww man, these kids are all famous, I've never seen the show". They're probably jaded kids my age that don't need anymore friends. I got to the set the day before filming and it happened to be the season premiere party. I met a whole bunch of the cast and we just clicked right away. It was so strange!
Tyler Hilton says One of my good friends was with me on the road. Everybody on set, I just clicked with. I kept thinking "well maybe they're the only nice one on set" but after awhile I realized that in this experience, I was making some of the best friends I had made.
Tyler Hilton says To be in one spot at all instead of on tour was great. I keep in contact with them, they're like family and I would do anything for them. It was a great opportunity to make friends.
xopinkandblackxo asks tyler what is the most memorable thing from a show?
Tyler Hilton says Aww man, you know, thats a question that people always ask in different forms.. Whats the most embarassing, whats the most exciting? Every night is so different, I can't imagine what Frank Sinatra or someone has to tell after so many years. What comes to mind that is probably the most memorable, once I was on tour with Michelle Branch and she and I were sharing a dressing room and she saw that
Tyler Hilton says my suitcase was open and threw them out into the audience. I didn't know that until I was signing autographs after and this girl came up and was like "will you sign this underwear" and I was like "wow, thats great underwear, I've got that" and she was like "thats great because these are yours"
Britt02 asks if you had to choose between singing and acting which one would you choose?
Tyler Hilton says Singing. The fact is, I really really like acting, its a great great hobby of mine, something that I love to study, but I've taken breaks from acting to do my music. If I were to be a full time actor, I could never ever stop writing. Thats what makes me a songwritier through and through. Thats what my family does, thats what I do. Its inevitable.

Tyler Hilton says Thats easy. The bummer is that I've never met her. I always say its her and she's probably read it before. My big celebrity crush is Alison Lohman from Matchstick Men and Big Fish. We're probably meant to be - she just doesn't know it yet. Maybe she's on this chat right now !!
othluver89 asks what do u do when your not filming or recording or on tour etc?
Tyler Hilton says Honestly, there's no such thing. I've been on tour for like a year and a half. The only reason that I stop tour is to record. In the downtime that I do have, I guess it is just writing. I just try to hang with friends because there is so little time off. I go out, go to the movies... you know. I try to be social in that time off.
xxDeanna asks Do you prefer singing for smaller or larger amounts of people and why?
Tyler Hilton says I read a whole bunch too. When I'm travelling in a car or on a plane or in hotel rooms, I read a whole bunch. Newspapers, books. I don't read many magazines, just newspapers and books. I really like to read.
Tyler Hilton says Hmm...
Tyler Hilton says There is an excitement to singing to a larger audience. Adrenaline. There is a power, there is a risk, there is a danger... Thats why I love singing for a big audience. Ultimately, I think that smaller crowds, I feel like I connect with more. In just trying to do the best job that I can as an entertainer, I like performing in smaller venues better because I can talk.. and I do talk a lot.
Tyler Hilton says You can't talk as much in a big venue because its too big and it reverberates.

Tyler Hilton says Its funny, it was the exact same as it is now. I'm just as shy, just as outgoing, just as many friends, just as many people to think that I'm not cool. I was a musician fulltime.. The same dynamic between acting and singing, the same kind of people that I hang out with now, I really think that it is great. I had a great time in high school and I haven't changed much since then. I mean,
Tyler Hilton says I've lost touch with a few friends cause I've been touring, but meeting me now is just like if you met me in high school. I got all the leads in the plays but I wasn't the most popular. It was one of those things, where you were kind of popular but not THE most popular.

Tyler Hilton says Currently reading, a recommended book I picked up at a friends house in Boston. It is by Anne Tyler - The Accidental Tourist. A little pop culture reading, getting some of that in.
Tyler Hilton says My favorite book ever, that I'm obsessed with.. I collect books, first editions if I can find them. Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Conan Doyle... and John Grisham.

Tyler Hilton says Hey band, are we excited for the headline tour? Haha, yeah, they're all yelling yes. We start tomorrow, we've done the one tree hill tour. But to headline, that means we can be the boss! Because, you know, being an opening act is fun, but... it would be so much better to be headlining. We all get along so well.

Tyler Hilton says God, I mean the best part is seeing who it is that agreed with me I guess. You're talking about things that you love and hate and believe in, you gotta see people that dig you. Meeting similar types!

Tyler Hilton says Probably New York. I've been playing there for the longest, I mean aside from LA or any city in California. I always get a good response there.

Tyler Hilton says You know, its great because he's really good at what he does. I've met a lot of people in the business and.. you know, being on the road with a parent is just like you can imagine. Its frustrating, sometimes its cool. But a dad is a dad so its like working with your dad in the family business. I can't imagine doing it without him. He's responsible, he's on time, he's a constant worker.
Tyler Hilton says So many people that I've met in the business say that I'm so lucky to have him (whether he's my dad or not) working for me because he's a great worker. I've been doing this for 7 years and I would have switched over to someone else if he wasn't as great as he is.

Tyler Hilton says I've got Victoria Blake who is my other manager who started helping us out. I feel bad answering that question without giving her a lot of credit. The two fo them have done so much for me.
Tyler Hilton says You know, all I can say is that I would like to. Whether or not that happens.. We usually have a great time. But whether or not that can happen will ultimately depend on my touring schedule and the future of the show. Nothing is certain for next season and I have no idea how much I'll be working this summer and all next year. It will depend whether the fans want me back, whether they're

Tyler Hilton says Ooh, you know. Whenever he's around, he emcee's my shows. Just for fun, because he likes performing as much as I do. On tour, I mean, I don't know. I've wanted him to come on the road with me and he comes on the road when he's got time off to hang out! He comes out and says hi at the show. But I wouldn't ask him to leave what he's doing just to emcee the tour. He's got his own things.
