Here's my review:
“The Walk” * * * * (4 out of 5 stars) Meagan Clements Staff Writer Like a rock fest in your living room, Hanson delivers a potent mix of smoldering “electric” riffs and catchy chord progression on their fourth studio album “The Walk.” With in-your-face scores not so rigorously crafted and a balance of vocals soaked in soul and drenched in rhythm, “The Walk” offers listeners a smorgasbord of playful pop, raw energy and inspiring lyrics glazed with old fashioned rock and roll roots. This time around, vocals aren’t overstressed and the pressure of band members Isaac, Taylor and Zac to make the best “Hanson” album to date doesn’t echo nearly as loud as the natural evolution of all 14 tracks. Songs on “The Walk” are groovy and fun and the contributions of each band member lyrically and vocally make for a refreshing listen. The luscious soul of “Running Man” and the fresh and funky “Tearing in Down” — a danceable ditty — are two tracks which hold to the individuality and uniqueness that Hanson have been commended for on previous albums. Other songs such as "Great Divide" and "Blue Sky" allow pianist Taylor to bring the much yearned for gospel overtones and funky motown rock to the forefront. Hanson draw from their musical inspirations in “Been There Before,” a song that screams a passion for those oldies but goodies and features lead vocals by Taylor. Hanson belts out the question “does it fill your heart and soul with the roots of rock and roll” in the chorus and when all else fails, in the bridge — “when you can’t get through it, you can listen to it.” Drummer Zac shines vocally on five of the album’s tracks including “Go” and “Fire on the Mountain,” demonstrating his edgy flair for a more retro folk/blues. Guitarist Isaac lets “suave and sultry” ride smooth on “Watch Over Me," proving his talent for writing soul-searing anthems. Lyrics such as "Don't give up, I know you've stopped believing" are inspiring. pianist Taylor adds a more punchy pop to the songs “Georgia" and "Your Illusion" to name just a few. It’s not enough to simply surf the web or visit the band’s website to hear 30-second clips of mediocre sound quality; the album’s best assets are its enticing intros, bold bridges and memorable bonus tracks which can be heard through the Japanese release of the album. “In a Way” — the chorus is a deep reflection on the purpose and meaning of life itself — and “I am,” both feature lead vocals by drummer Zac. Some of life’s greatest lessons are learned through songs and some of life’s most memorable albums are those that grow on you. With lyrics such as “everyone must make a choice; will I go for it all and possibly fall,” Hanson has proven that anything worth having is worth working for. Their gift of music, brilliantly honed on “The Walk” exemplifies just that. |

Today I was going through my collection of VHS movies, and I came across The Road to Albertain. Oh man! The memories that came flooding back to me! I have been a fan of Hanson for years, but back in the day I was one of those "I love Hanson more than anything in this world" people. Haha.. oh man, it was awesome watching it after all these years. A big ten years ago I got that tape for Christmas. It just makes me smile thinking about those days.
