“Peepin’ it Real” …Curtis Peoples dishes out the story on his new album “Rock Out!! And Stay A While” By: Meagan Clements Staff Writer San Diego Native and singer/songwriter Curtis Peoples recently released a brand new album, “Rock Out!! And Stay A While” and is gaining a growing fan base as a result of it. A welcoming, exciting and real artist, Peoples is an acoustic guitarist and singer who is out to prove that there is more to music than money and fame. Talented, down-to-earth and passionate about making music, he inspires and touches listeners everywhere. Peoples has gotten into more artists such as U2 and Bon Jovi since his former “Whisper to a Scream” and feels that a multitude of musical styles and artists inspired him in writing and recording material for the new album. According to Peoples, “[The new album] is a little more complete and together; it sounds more like a band.” This time around, Peoples’ goal as an artist was to produce a good record that was diverse and fun, yet credible nonetheless. To Peoples, a good, well-rounded album features a mix of rock and acoustic music, ballads and juke box favorites. A good example of a classic, feel-good rock tune is “Heart Will Fall” which he claims to be one of his favorite tracks off of the album because it’s just so fun to play. Peoples co-wrote songs with Dave Yaden and Jason Gambill of “The Weight” and has shown listeners that he’s trying to create something undeniable. “I want to make a record that I would want to hear,” said Peoples. He shows that you can write really great, hooky pop tunes that still have a lot of depth, energy and meaning in them. Not only does Peoples believe in his music, but he believes that it is important for his music to speak from the heart. Performing in many intimate clubs around Southern California, Peoples is enthusiastic about what small venues can do for an audience. “The cool thing about a small club is that it forces everyone together,” said Peoples. “You’re a part of [the show] and you’re not disconnected. Playing in a large venue, you have to work harder to pull people [together].” Despite the differences between venues, Peoples, whose ultimate goal as a musician is to get signed by a major record label, says that he feeds off the crowds and would love to play an arena rock concert. Both genuine and sincere about his successes thus far, Peoples not only wants to make a name for himself in the music industry, but he wants other aspiring musicians to go after their dreams as well. “There are a million different ways to make it in the music business,” said Peoples. “Jump on every opportunity [you] have, go for it, and keep a really open mind.” If there’s any artist out there who deserves to make it in the music business, it’s Curtis Peoples. He’s thankful and appreciative of his fan base, but most importantly he’s real. Without trying to be anything that he’s not, Peoples is an artist who is out to inspire, not impress. “I’m just excited for people to hear the record,” he said. If they hear it and they like it, [they should] go see a show.” Most importantly, visit www.curtispeoples.com for more information or check out his MySpace music page at www.myspace.com/curtispeoples. |
