ugh i have to send in my applications soon. I'm applying to UNH, UVM, Northeastern, and URI...oh, and I have to take the ACTs this saturdayFrown but I think the ACTs seem easier than SATs, i've heard a lot of other people say that too...but I guess it depends.

i have never been there but i hear that it's a really great place to live and the people are really nice. and there's always things to do. plus, i need to get out far away from pennsylvania! haha plus i'm a sucker for cowboy hats and the accents! hehe

For North Carolina - try East Carolina University in Greenville. It's where I go and you won't feel like your the only out of state person and the weekends are really fun. It has a good academic program but its not impossible to get into like Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill.

I wouldnt reccomend UNC-Greensboro if your out of state because people go home on the weekends a lot. UNC-Pembroke is kind of small. UNC-Asheville may be good. Or Appalachian State if you like the mountains. Depending on your grades you can also try NC State - there's a lot going on there but you would need over a 3.5.

Jackie, what nc schools did you apply to?

other nc schools: unc-charlotte...they go home a lot on weekends.

queens is a private college in charlotte.

wake forest (you have to have realllly good grades and such to get in, but it is a really amazing school)

davidson (even better grades than wake, plus its really expensive)

duke (same)

unc (not expensive, but kinda tough to get into out of state.)

buuut, if you're looking for schools in nc, go to fastweb.com --> im on there and i now know every school within 200 miles of winston-salem. so, just a thought.

Here's a word of advice to all of you high school kids....I know it'll seem strange, but I think it's true. Spend time with your family. You'll miss them....even if you think you won't. Spend time with your friends....don't be dumb like me and get in a fight with the best of them at the beginning of the summer before you leave for college (STILL regretting that...I miss them like crazy!). But really, spend time with your parents and siblings and grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles...it sounds crazy, but it's oh so true! This is most likely the last time you'll be actually "living" there rather than being an occasional guest or summertime visitor. It's a big change....for you and your parents. You've gotta make things fun for yourself, but you've also gotta help them adjust too.

Oh, and here is the best advice my dad ever gave me: Set yourself up so that YOU can pick the college you want to go to....don't let your college pick you. (AKA: work your heinie off in high school so that you can decide where you want to spend your next for years rather than getting thrown into some college that you aren't really passionate about because your grades weren't high enough to go where you wanted.)

i should've been given that advice in freshmen year. i took AP US History in 9th grade and that screwed me over majorly. my grades aren't bad but they're not great either. i'm just hoping to get into a school that gets me good financial aid.

haha....that's true...my dad told me in middle school though....I guess I should be broadcasting that info on a younger board....but it's never too late :-D haha
you took AP history your FRESHMAN year?!?! Are you serious? It wasn't even offered to us until our junior year! I'm sure you'll be fine. A college would rather see you do not too great in an AP class than see you do well in a regular class.

my school is full of overachievers so yeah...they offer ap classes to freshmen and sophomores. i think that's why our "challenge index" is so high. we're apparnatly the number 17 school in the country if we're goign by that index.
