(I can't believe we don't have one of these already!)
With summer coming, I know one of the things I love to do is layout with a book, so I thought it might be good to start a thread with any books you all have read recently, or before that you really enjoyed and share with everyone! One book I highly suggest is "Just Listen" by Sarah Dessen. It's really light reading and a really cute story so I highly suggest it, especially for her summer. I pretty much love all of her books but that is my favorite |

yayy I love book talk.
my favorite contemporary book is "The Shadow of The Wind" by Zafon. it is an absolutely amazing story. It is incredibly smart, fun, and mysterious. Like all books it also has a nice love story. It's really hunting too. If I could read any book for the first time it would be this one; the suspense is masterfully done. Overall, I REALLY recommend you all to read it. I read it last summer and I could not put it down. it is incredible, you will not regret it. -Cristina- |

As I've gotten older, I have kind of lost my love for reading...which is awful and sad. However, last summer I read "The Pact" by Jodi Piccoult.....and it was amazing. I could not put it down...and on the last page, I had to cover the ending so I wouldn't skip ahead. It had me laughing and crying....and if you know Taylor Swifts song "Marys Song (my my my)" the song reminds me a TON of the book. Amy and I even took it to school and got our twin boys (who are avid readers anyways....) to read it...and THEY loved it (although it really is more of a girls book, IMO....they are slightly feminine men

I like that song so I might like the book also then. I've been looking for a good book to read for awhile now. I'll have to check it out. ------------ AnnaMaria<3 "Music's the only thing that makes sense anymore.. play it loud enough, it keeps the demons at bay." |

I'm reading The Pact right now, and it's completely addictive. I just recently finished Man of My Dreams by Curtis Sittenfeld who also wrote Prep, both of these books I suggest. A few other good books people should check out are: You Can Get Arrested For That: 2 Guys, 25 Dumb Laws, 1 Absurd American Crime Spree by Rich Smith, Pledged by Alexandra Robbins, and [/i]Miss New York Has Everything[/i] by Lori Jakiela. I sometimes wonder how I manage to find so much time to read.
Also if anyone likes mystery series you should check out The Scumble River Mysteries by Denise Swanson and Blackbird Sisters Mysteries by Nancy Martin, they are both excellent writers. ---Taylor M.--- 12/24/06 - Tyler Hilton called 02/17/07 - Met Andrew McMahon (Jack's Mannequin) 06/16/07 - Met Sherwood "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." - John Lennon |

I liked the Dan Brown novels and of course Harry Potter, but look out for books by Matthew Reilly. You seriously can't put them down!

Mr. Riabko and I were wandering around Borders and causing trouble a few months ago. He gave me a few book recommendations...including the Bill Clinton Autobiography and a Abraham Lincoln Biography (yeah...pretty sure he's a nerd, and pretty sure we all knew that already...HANS!!).
When I told him I didn't think I'd be into either of those, he suggested "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs" by Chuck Klosterman (who's from Minnesota! Yay!). We searched the store high & low for the book, but it was not to be found. I ended up going back a month later, and they had it. I haven't read the entire thing yet, but it is highly entertaining, and quite true & accurate. So, even though, I haven't finished it, I would definitely recommend it. And I mean, come on...who knows books better than Kyle? (...right) |

This year for my Ethics in Literature course we read a lot of great books. My absolute favoutrite from the course was "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath. If you don't know, the book is about a girl's decline into depression. Now, I really loved this book, but I've got to say I'm a little disappointed to hear that Julia Stiles will be playing the main character, Esther, in a new film adaptationthat wants to bring out the humour of the character. The book is not supposed to be filled with humor... Nonetheless, I recommend it.

I just finished reading the Pact and it was definately really good! Thanks for that recommendation! The only issue I had with it was that within the first few pages I realized that I saw it as a lifetime movie already! I still kept readying though
And I wrote down a few more of y'alls suggestions...I am going to the library tomorrow to pick up a few more for vacation....gotta love reading! Keep the suggestions coming too! |

I just finished The Quickie by James Patterson, I think it is his best book yet. Anything by James Patterson is great though, especially the Alex Cross series.

I'm almost done with Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster. I highly suggest reading the book, it's a tweaked memoir, and its completely fascinating and entertaining.

I just started Ayn Rand's Atlast Shrugged and so far it is amazing just like many other of her works I have read. I'm a huge classic literature fan so I'd have to say The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner is a great book to read. I also just started Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger because he is the author of my favorite book The Catcher in the Rye, it isn't as good but I'm still enjoying it. I could read Catcher over and over again though and never tire of it. I'm gonna check out some of these books though and use some of my borders rewards.

I've been reading A Man Named Dave by Dave Pelzer. He also wrote A Child Called "It" and The Lost Boy. They're all very hard to read books. If you've never heard of them, they're about how his mother would beat him beyond imagine, play games with him like locking him in the bathroom with a bucket of bleach, making him throw up when he got home from school to make sure he didn't eat anything. Anyway, all of three of them are amazing and I definitely suggest them

I have not read that book yet, but I was hearing from some one who has and it sounds very very similar to this book that I LOVE Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the main character goes through basically all the same events in the book Just listen . I have read The Pact by Jodi Picoult, and I absolutly LOVED it! I can't wait to see the movie, but Picoult is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend ANY of her books, but my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is My Sister's Keeper I guarentee you will fall in love with her books. Others I have read are: The Pact, Vanishing Acts, The Tenth Circle... Oh yea, i absolutly love this thread, because i like to talk about the books i read =] **Some times the hardest thing and the right thing are the same...**--- The Fray |
