I'm looking for a laptop for college and the choices have narrowed down to these three so I'm going to need help choosing. I'm looking for a computer that'll last me at least 4 years of college.

1. Sony VAIO Notebook with Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology: $849.99. 1.73 GHz processor speed, 15.4" screen, 80 GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 6 lbs, XP home edition. Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW.
link for more info.

2. Toshiba Notebook with Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology: It says $699.99 online but it's really about $749.99 in stores. 1.86 GHz processor speed, 15.4" screen, 100GB hard drive, 512MB RAM, 6 lbs, XP media edition. Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW. link

3. HP pavillion Notebook with AMD Turion 64: $699.99. 1.8 GHz processor speed, 15.4" screen, 80GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 6.5 lb, XP media edition. Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW.
link

Thanks!

I can't really help you with those.....I have a PowerBookG4. But I can advise anyone who wants a really good, really smart, very user-friendly, but more expensive computer to get either the PowerBook or the MacBook. They're Macs....and a lot of people are scared of Mac's at first, but I LOVE my Mac. yeah. No, I'm not kidding. I love it.

Hallelujah!!! I love how people are coming to the BETTER side. The Mac side. I have 3 Macs and wouldn't trade them for anything. Not even a tricked out fully loaded PC signed and kissed by Bill Gates himself. Macs do everything PC's do...only better and faster. I have an iBook, an iMac, and a G5 with a 27inch monitor and they all ROCK!!! So user friendly, easy to download stuff, works great with "classic PC programs" such and Word and Excel. Plus even though they may be a little more expensive, you get a great warranty and awesome customer support thru AppleCare. No worries. Plus you get all the cool stuff free without having to addon things like DVD±RW/CD-RW, Awesome free space and memory, AND Macs now come with Intel Core Duo which means super fast! They come with built in iSight cameras, are wireless ready, iLife 06, Bluetooth and more. It's the best choice. It's literally "out of the box" use. Go to Apple.com and watch the tv ads, snoop around a little and see if you like anything. It's sooo worth it. Big Grin

Ok...I'm done with my sales pitch now. LoL. Thanks for your time. HaHa!

OH YEA!!! A special Mac is running now for college students!! Purchase a Mac (any kind I think) and get a FREE iPod Nano!!! How awesome is that?!!?!?

I grew up with Macs all my life and for my graduation present I got the Macbook and how I love it so. But Sophesterr you can try reading user ratings. I forgot exactly where you can find them, but I know there are some sites that let you compare the differences between computers. I'll try finding out later.

I don't have a Mac but I have a 2006 Dell Inspiron. It's really cool. It's not giving me any problems. My bro hooked it up w/ more memory/programs and such. I'll ask my bro about those laptops you have up there. He's an "expert" on those kinds of stuff. Smile

wow a lot of mac lovers on this board. Yeah, no macs for me. I tried using one at nih and...that kind of failed. I almost broke it. But thanks for the attempt! I'm leaning more towards the hp just because it's cheaper and comes with a remote =)

I have an HP Pavilion zd8000 (the only way i knew that was b/c im using it right now), and i really love it. I think HP computers are very reliable; i have had no problems with it... Other than the fact that mine is huge and i cannot find a laptop case big enough. Its also pretty heavy. So stay away from the 17" screen! Goodluck! have fun at college! Its smart to get a laptop by the way, especially if you are moving away from home. There have been several times where the power had gone out while i was working on a paper... but luckily, with the laptop, it doesn't turn off!

I'd be the anti-mac person on the boards. I hate Em's computer! I can't figure out how to work it!

I would suggest doing some research on the AMD vs the Intel processors.
