Alright Ya'll. Anyone who knows ANYTHING at all about MACs or who could be of any help at all would be appreciated greatly. Here's the deal: I had to get a MAC laptop for college next year and I am not very familiar with them. Anyways, I downloaded IM and it kept randomly shutting down every so often when I was using it. It kept doing it for the first few days I had gotten my computer, so I decided to delete my version of IM and redownload it to see if that would fix my problems. So, I dragged my IM program to the trashcan and emptied the trashcan. Then I attempted to redownload IM. When I tried to reinstall it, it would only open a bunch of jumbled letters and stuff in TextEdit. Does anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it? OR does anyone have a Mac with IM downloaded and would be willing to e-mail it to me at ecalmaro@vt.edu? I would absolutely LOVE you forever if you could help me figure this out! I am lost without my IM! I mean, I have been using my old computer, but it is a boxy thing....and my new one is much nicer. I feel so dumb though....it's nearly impossible to screw up a MAC...and I did in less than 5 days! Thanks ya'll!

I know this is a stupid question, but did you dl the MAC version of IM?

yeah i did. I dont know what I did wrong...or if I somehow managed to screw up a mac...which is NEARLY impossible!!! Does anyone know a program on a MAC that I can do an "open with" type of thing to open the installer in to get it out of text edit and working again? OR do you have a MAC with AIM on it and would you be willing to SEND ME YOUR COPY OF IM??? PLEASE? THanks!!

i have a mac...and the im still confuses me and i've had it for almost 2 years i cant figure out how to get different icons that are 'pre-loaded' b/c of something w/ safari..but anyway...umm i'll try and figure out if i can send you a copy...or something....haha i'll post later if i can figure it out!

ok..is the folder on your desktop or on the bar on the bottom? b/c if its on your desktop..to open, hold down control and click the icon..and it should come up with a list of things, and 'open with' should be on there!

If you dl any of the messengers you shouldn't have to have a program to open it in. You should be able to double click the installer and open it and see the installer again. Double click that and it should just attach and work.
Do you have the AIM chat already? If you have tiger they should have it already on there for you. It's like AV chat or something like that.

hey, i'm a big mac fan over here...edits and works on it non-stop...after you DLed it, restart the computer, your lappy might have just gone into shock after having a new programinstalled in it.
