I'm pretty surprised there's not a thread for this already. Maybe there is and I'm just blind. But it's all over main website pages that have anything to do with news. I seriously can't believe it. I couldn't feel more sad for anyone involved.

We've been talking about it in the "Post what you are thinking" thread. Cause 2 of our fellow MBers go there (Amy&Emily). They are ok, amen. But they've been keeping us up to date.

A separate thread probably is a good thing. I feel bad taking over the Anything you want thread. That should be a happy thread.

It sounds cliche, but you never think things like this could happen to you or your community. I never would have imagined this would happen at Tech. Blacksburg is actually very small. We don't even have a Walmart in the city. The college IS the entire town....and it is huge. Tech is one of the biggest campuses in Virginia. Tens of thousands of students go here. At the time of the first shooting, there were already thousands of students en route to class. It is impossible to get in touch with tens of thousands of students in less than an hour, especially when some students are driving, sleeping, or walking to class. The safest thing for the school to do was continue the day as planned, and get the students into classrooms. No one could have possibly predicted that someone would start shooting in one of the classroom buildings. After that happened, VT took all of the proper precautions to lock down the campus. I really hope that the officials at Tech do not get negative press because of this. Tech is a great school, and I love it very much. We just had a terrible thing happen to us.

Gosh, I haven't been on here in so long, but when I heard about this and Ash reminded me of the other set of twins that lived down in VA, I had to come in and drop a comment. I am so glad you girls are safe, and please continue to stay that way. This is an awful thing that has happened, and my heart goes out to you all.

I'm so thankful that Emily and Amy are fine! I feel really bad about the others that were killed, such a terrible thing.

Today has just been unreal. Amy did mention that VT is a HUGE campus...but it's insane how small it is at the same time. Many of my friends know people who have died. I have a friend who is unaccounted for at the moment (and she was in the building where the mass shootings took place at that time...). I also heard that someone who I presume to be in her classroom (through the classes they would both be taking....and after looking at a class list of classes in Norris at this time..) was killed in this incident. It is very tragic. It is very surreal. I don't believe it. I don't want to believe it. I wish today did not happen.
Please keep us in your thoughts

I just heard (by word of mouth...so i don't know that it is true yet or not....) that my friend Caitlin was killed.

I just wanted to let you guys know that my local country radio station is taking and asking for all the viewers in the area to spread the word and take a moment of silence at 9 AM tomorrow morning. I've listened to people calling into the station and read messages online, and people in metro Detroit are absolutely heartbroken over this tragedy and have the entire VT community in their prayers.

this is so unreal. I can't believe it. This is crazy. I don't want to believe it. I wish today had never happened. I just can't get the images of people being dragged out of that building out of my head....
and I keep thinking of Caitlin. Her facebook has pictures from JUST TWO NIGHTS AGO! TWO NIGHTS! And I see comments that she left on the photos from last night at 9 pm...and it's UNREAL. It's just UNREAL. I don't think I can comprehend this right now...and I just don't know how to handle this.

I do REALLY appreciate all of your support and concern, phone calls, and messages. It means so much....it really does. Today has just been awful....I cannot even express the emotions that are running through my head right now

And I'm even more worried to see a list of names....i dont know if there are any other people that I forgot to check on, or know through friends....tomorrow is going to be just as sad.

They have cancelled classes for tomorrow...but I imagine they will extend that much further....
