I am so upset that the movie did that bad....I really thought that it would do so much better. Maybe once the whole Harry Potter craze is over people will go see WTL.

I know that all of my friends (except the one I went w/ who loves Tyler too) went to see Harry Potter this weekend, and next weekend they are seeing Walk the Line. We're making a party out of it. I feel sorry for the people who are gonna be in the theater w/ us.

Argh...that kind of aggravates me...
No offense...but it doesn't seem right that a movie that is basically as big as it is because of special effects, out does a movie with real talent about a real life story |

HP isn't all special effects. It's the feeling of the books and the magic and how fun it is to see them brought to life on film. They have just as much real talent as any other movie. The HP actors task is even bigger, living up to the hype of a cultural phenomenon.
(But I still will see WTL next weekend. Go Ty.) What aggrivates me is how poorly "Pride & Prejudice" did...oh well. aim: monalisadog email: monalisadog@gmail.com myspace: myspace.com/somebirds |

hmm Well, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, and I have no desire to see this new movie. I just can't stand it when movies butcher books, and that's pretty much what I've heard happened here. I guess I'm a book snob b/c I'm like that with most book-turned-movies. But, yes, I'm not at all surprised that HP kicked WTL's ass. That was a given. |

I was also disappointed about Pride and Prejudice doing so poorly. There are just too many movies out in the theatre right now!!
HP is huge and it's no surprise it did so well. However, Johnny Cash is pretty popular. A lot of our parents grew up on Johnny Cash and his albums still sell well. He is one of the biggest contributors to music (not just country). Young people have the biggest source of disposable income, which is a great contributor to the sales this weekend. If you are a parent and had to choose between your kids seeing Harry Potter or you seeing a movie, more than likely you would let your kids see HP. |

Pride and Prejudice is still in limited release w/ only like 200+ theaters. It did really well. Its per screen average is greater than WTL and is 2nd only to HP. |

I thought the movie was going to do soo well until I realized that it was up against HP which really agrivates me. I serioulsy cant stand Harry Potter and my friend just got back from the movie and said she was soo dissappointed because they left SOOOO much out from the book.

I haven't seen WTL yet, but I will be soon. Sucks that it had to be up against Harry Potter, so many people like Harry Potter that like Becca said, it's a given it will kick WTL's butt. The ratings will probably rise soon, though

It was second, I'd say that's pretty good? I would never have expected it to do better than HP.
Maggie it's more than a feeling, it's something that can't be explained [35] |

Yeah, I think that's REALLY good, 2nd place! I didn't expect it to do better, either.

I knew that it wouldn't beat HP, but I thought that the totals sales would have been much higher. Oh well, maybe this weeekend!

ANy one kno the age bracket that's gone to see WTL? I'm guessing a lot of "older" people because of the fact that it's johnny cash

WTL still had pretty high numbers for opening weekend...and the older crowd which is more likely to see WTL than HP dont always rush right out to the theatre when a movie opens, and I was the youngest person in the theatre during WTL so I am sure more and more people will see this movie especially w/ word of mouth...I actually saw both movies this weekend and there not really movies you can compare each other to...
